Phillies prospect Victor Arano shut down for spring training with elbow injury

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Victor Arano, a Phillies pitching prospect with an electric arm, will likely miss the remainder of major-league spring training after suffering an elbow injury.

The righthander returned to Clearwater on Wednesday after having a platelet-rich plasma injection to treat his sprained ulnar collateral ligament. General manager Matt Klentak said Arano will need at least four weeks of rest before throwing again.

Arano, 22, spent the final month of last season with double-A Reading. He had a 2.26 ERA with 95 strikeouts and 19 walks in 79 2/3 innings between high-A Clearwater and Reading. The Phillies acquired Arano in 2014 in the trade that sent Roberto Hernandez to the Dodgers.
