Phillies' Schierholtz lands on disabled list
The Phillies have placed outfielder Nate Schierholtz on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured toe, the team announced Monday.
The team recalled infielder Hector Luna from triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his place on the roster. Luna is expected to be available to play in Monday night's game against the Marlins in Miami.
Schierholtz, acquired from the Giants in the trade that sent Hunter Pence to San Francisco on July 31, suffered the injury to his right big toe during his only at-bat in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Cardinals.
Schierholtz is hitting .219 with one home run and two RBI in 11 games since joining the Phillies.
Does the term "bench player" ring a bell? topwonk
Jeez, there goes our ticket to the WS WBFO
Nice job on the Pence dael all around Rube. Give up 3 great prospects. End up with one prospect and a bench player ... Well done. mortt1956
Agreed with Morttt FABER- More playing time for Pierre.
- I love the revisionist history. Everybody and their mother wanted the Phillies to get Pence last year. Now all of a sudden it was a bad deal. If all 3 prospects become bona fide major leaguers, then it was a bad trade. Otherwise, not. pbuscio
Another fine move by Rube the Boob! I can hardly wait to see how he messes things up this off season. erniebanks14
Agree, but Rube new he was going to have to pay Pence at some point. Very short-sighted on his part. Why do we give up so many great prospects and get so very little in return (Lee, Shane, Pence) ?? mortt1956
It is a shame that Nate is on the DL right now. As for what he really is he maybe a bench player and he may turn into something good. hopefully once the toe heals he come back and gets his bat going some because .219 isn't goi9ng to get it done here. I wouldrather have Mayberry playing at least he has more power even if he resally isn't hitting the cover off the ball either. srcdaddy1216
would rather have a platoon in RF costing the team 8 million dollars than pay Pence 15 million to not hit with RISP and ground into DPs on a regular basis. It was fun while it lasted but time to move on. Oh yeah, despite his first homer as a Giant last night, he is hitting a robust .158 in 12 games so far. ESFjellin
everyone did not want pence last year and I was one of the few who wanted melky cabrera because singleton and cosart would be in the organization now, cabrera had 201 hits last year and may get 220 or more this year the man is hitting close to or over .350....many here wanted pence well you got him with his wild swings misjudging fly balls etc happy now? only 9
Pence won his first game for us yesterday, 3 run HR in the bottom of the 8th into LCF in AT&T. We appreciate the power infusion and what, to all eyes, is a real team guy with an eye for nice ladies. channelclemente
I don't know why everyone writes off Juan Pierre for the 2013 Phillies. All the guy does is get on base and help the team win, which is more than I can say for most of the Phillies players. Just because he doesn't hit for power doesn't mean he's not a valuable contributor. SteveS11
