Roy Halladay continues to work with Phillies as volunteer instructor

Roy Halladay's tenure with the Phillies has continued past spring training as the Cy Young winner is working as a volunteer instructor with the team's minor-league pitchers in Clearwater, Fla.

Halladay returned to the Phillies in March as a guest instructor. He seemed inclined then to push his role past spring training. Halladay is still a guest instructor and not a Phillies employee, assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said. Proefrock said a full-time role has not yet been discussed. Much like spring training, Halladay balances his work at the team's complex with coaching his son's baseball teams and with college classes at the University of South Florida.

Proefrock said Halladay, who played the final four seasons of his career with the Phillies before retiring after the 2013 season, is focused on the game's mental side.

"That was always his strong point," Proefrock said. "This was something that he had some interest in and we're giving him the opportunity to interact with players. He was there as a guest instructor during spring training, developed some relationships with players, and decided he wanted to continue this."

"I definitely want to get back in in some respects," Halladay said during spring training. "So just getting here and being around, obviously with a new front office, they need to see who you are, things like that. I think it's just a great opportunity to get out here again and be around the guys. Especially with so many new, young players, it's exciting for a guy like myself to come in and watch them. If I can share anything that'll help them, that's awesome."
