Phillies celebrated Nick Pivetta’s first win by stuffing him into a laundry cart

ATLANTA - Nick Pivetta earned his first major-league win on Monday night, kept the ball as a memento, and then was stuffed into a laundry cart.

"Phenomenal. Something like that, it's what you dream of," Pivetta said after an 11-4 rout of the Braves. "Just getting that win, having those guys treat you that way. It's fun. Just winning a baseball game. It's always the fun stuff that goes along with it. It's part of it, though."

The Phillies doused Pivetta with powder, shaving cream, and water as they wheeled him around the clubhouse to celebrate his first win. They blasted loud music and were reminded what winning felt like after enduring a historically challenging May.

"We had a good time with that," Tommy Joseph said. "It was good. It was good."

Pivetta pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits. The righthander struck out four and walked three. It was a good start to Pivetta's second major-league stint of the season. Pivetta has the chance to stick around longer this time as he fills in for Vince Velasquez, who return is still unclear.

Pivetta found success Monday by utilzing his curveball and change-up, throwing both for strikes to pair with his low-90s fastball.  It was a marked improvement from his four major-league starts earlier this season. The righthander was one of the organization's best minor-league pitchers the last two seasons. He had a 1.41 ERA this year in five starts at triple A. Monday night provided hope that Pivetta can find similar success in the majors. He had the shaving cream to prove it.

"It's the same game, same players," Pivetta said. "You've got to mimic what you do down there up here. You've done it before, you can do it again. I know I can do it. I just need to get past that fifth inning now, which I need to do better to limit those bullpen guys because I don't want to wear them out. That's what I'm going to work toward next time."
