Phillies Grapefruit League pitching schedule: Week 1

POSTED: Wednesday, February 20, 2013, 9:20 AM

Pro-tip: Before settling on the spring training games you will attend in between rounds of golf and bottles of beer when you are on vacation here in Clearwater, do your best to check out the pitchers who are scheduled to appear in those games. For example, Monday's home game against Detroit will feature Cliff Lee, Mike Stutes, Phillippe Aumont, Jonathan Papelbon and Raul Valdes, all of whom have at least a decent chance at making the Opening Day roster (except that Papelbon guy -- he might be on the bubble). Tuesday's home game will feature Kyle Kendrick, Aaron Cook, Chad Durbin, Zach Miner and Jeremy Horst. Everything else being equal, I'd pick Monday (no offense to Kendrick and Durbin).

Below is the schedule that pitching coach Rich Dubee has posted for the seven games of the exhibition season.

Friday's scrimmage should be fun to watch. Morgan is a guy who has a chance to put himself into position for a call-up should injuries strike the rotation. Same goes for Pettibone. Martin is a guy the organization is high on. He was one of the two pitchers acquired from the Dodgers last year in the Victorino trade. Kyle Simon is another intriguing name. He's a reliever who was acquired from the Orioles in the Thome trade.

    Murphy,
I see you are still the writer that takes a shot at Chad Durbin no matter how well he does for the Phillies. What is with that? Durbin does the job asked of him and more.

Not sure I have ever taken a shot at Durbin.

    Murphy,
I guess I was thinking of another writer then, because there are a couple out there that just love to take shots at him. I think they are mistaking him for JD Durbin. JD had a mouth on him.
