Pedro Martinez is in New York City doing a promotional tour for Gillette, the men's shaving line.

It's probably the closest he'll get to Yankee Stadium for awhile.

Martinez re-iterated his plan to remain on the sidelines this season, which has been well known for at least the past month. The 38-year-old righthander told the Associated Press that he has turned offers from several teams over the past two weeks.

Martinez signed with the Phillies in July 2009. He went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in nine starts down the stretch and helped the Phillies reach the World Series.

Martinez told the Associated Press on Thursday he was “really happy” to receive the latest offers and
called them “very tempting.” He did not say which teams pursued him. Martinez said he will be spending the rest of the year with his kids and going on vacations.

Come on Phillies, give him three million and have him take Blanton's spot. And Yeah, I'd love to see him close.

Pedro was awesome last year. Some people's memories are as short as their...well. His start in Game 2 of the NLCS was amazing. (Utley's error) He was very good in Game 2 of WS as well but Burnett was just unhitable that night. Unfortunately the only game he'll be remembered for is Game 6. I still don't know what Manuel and Dubee were thinking about while elimination crept closer and closer. Dude should never of faced Matsui a second time. He simply had nothing that game from the very beginning. 5-1 down the stretch was just huge for us though and that Sun night ESPN game vs Mets was something. Come back Pedro!!!

Too bad. I would have liked to see him signed so the team's average age would come down.

Pedro Martinez made a big difference for us in the regular season. He pitched well in the postseason until the WS.

Hopefully he is injecting himself with some HGH so he can be ready to compete for our 5th starter job next year.

Pedro is retired. He's about as high mileage a 38 as one can be.
