Ryan Howard has been jogging, taking grounders at first, and even a little bit of batting practice. However, the team will be taking a conservative approach to rehabbing his Achilles.

dogman, how many other players would work as hard as Ryan is to come back? Not too many, I wager. But don't worry, keep on making your moronic comments.

I'd wait as long as possible to get him out there. I'd also wait until he can run 5 miles without pain. I don't want him to come back and then we have to hear about his sore Achilles for the rest of the season.

My achilles ruptured on vacation in December while walking, it had been a problem for months. Looking at how a pro athlete like Howard who missed games due to problems in that area then had it rupture, its pretty eye opening This is a very serious injury & a tough recovery. Has anyone seen how hes walking? No limp or change in his stride/gait?

Howard works hard. Always has. He needs a shorter, more consistent swing in the short playoff series. Over 162 games he puts up numbers but when it comes down to the nitty gritty he doesnt have a swing that promotes playoff success. I like Howard but Charlie, Ryan need to talk about situational hitting.

Me thinks Howard needs to hop back on the subway diet, he's looking like Thome's twin there... but seriously though, to see him up on his toes moving like that this early from that type of injury, the man's a beast

Hope he spent as much time with a swing coach and sports psychologist as he did with a physical therapist. A more patient Ryan could be a real consistent weapon

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover
Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.
This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
