Hamels, Phils roughed up vs. Twins

The Twins hit three homers, two off starter Cole Hamels, to defeat the Phillies 7-3 at Bright House Field Thursday.

Hamels went 6 2/3 innings in his longest outing of the spring. He was touched for a two-run double by Danny Valencia and a solo homer by Luke Hughes in a three-run Twins fourth. He surrendered a three-run blast to Delmon Young in the fifth. Hamels surrendered six runs on nine hits, with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Hamels was followed by right-hander Danys Baez and lefty J.C Romero, who each worked 2/3 of an inning with no runs. Brad Lidge started the  ninth with two strikeouts, but gave up a homer, a single and two walks before Mike Zagurski came on to get the final out.

Twins starter Nick Blackburn worked six scoreless innings, giving up six hits with one walk while striking out five. Joe Nathan, who missed last season due to arm surgery, was touched for three hits and three runs in one inning.

The Phillies had 10 hits, with Dane Sardinha's two-run double and Delwyn Young's single in a three-run eighth inning the highlights. Ross Gload and Carlos Ruiz added two hits each.

Joe Blanton starts for Philadelphia when it hosts Atlanta Friday.
