Hamels negotiations still very much alive
David Murphy
Don't read too much into reports that Cole Hamels has not accepted the Phillies' latest contract offer. The two sides are actively involved in negotiations on a six-year contract that could trump the $137.5 million that Johan Santana landed from the Mets prior to the 2008 season.
It is too early to say that the negotiations are entering the home stretch: Sources with knowledge of the talks said that there are still several issues that need to be worked out before a deal is consummated. But the hope, according to one source with knowledge of Hamels thinking, is that the end result will be a contract that keeps Hamels in Philadelphia well beyond the 2012 season.
Hamels next scheduled start is Friday. It is unclear if the Phillies need some sort of resolution by then.
Stay tuned.
Good news. pizzzmoe
Hamels to pull a Shane Weber shawnmac
After the Shea Weber travesty, we deserve some good news on the 100+ Million dollar contract offers front! GNIKGNARLY
so whats taking that loser RUBE so long, the jerk over paid everyone else just like that over rated PAPELBONK..... now pay the man! pr0f3ss0r
Enough of this waiting stuff. He's on the proverbial "pot". So, Cole, do your business or get out of town. Don't leave the Phillies with no time to make the best trade. It ain't all about you! gentian
I am not a big fan of long-term contracts, but Hamels deserves it as much as anyone else who's gotten one.I just wish he could throw all four pitches more often, rather than rely on the fastball and change-up. camdenlawprof
Right...continue to put all the cash into pitching. Look at all the World Series it has won us the past two years. Pitching has carried us this year into last place and out of the playoffs completely. It's not as if the Phillies need more offense or anything. Rube, now I know why they pay you the big bucks. You're much wiser than I. If I were the GM, I would have turned the Phillies into a last place team with my ridiculous philosophy of pitching, hitting, defense and character. DameB
I don't Hamels is worth the kind of money, he is asking for.I know he is going to get alot of money, but i dont see it.All i see is a very good pitcher, not a "great pitcher" with a "small" history of arm troubles in the past.I think the Phillies could put that money to
address positional needs, but watch he will sign here, and immediately
become no more than average pitcher in the future.-JUST MY OPINION!!

I just want the trades to start. Blanton, Pence, Polanco, Victorino. I dont care. Trade someone. Teams are making moves and the Phils wont have anyone left to deal with. Come on, RAJ. Havent you screwed this thing up enough? Chop, chop. Trade SOMEONE! scootch- Right on scootch. As Rube dithters, potential trade partners are filling their needs. The Dodgers just got Hanley Ramirez...so much for palming J-Roll off on them.

What a bunch of morons on here. Basking in Roy and Cliff's Cy Youngs, while Cole carried a pitching rotation of Moyer, Myers, and Blanton in the WS. Moyer had a career regular season, but Cole came up aces to win that title. He is a home grown product and yet the fans here want to run him out of town. No wonder he would consider leaving. He's "too California or not tough enough"...LOSERS. Signing Roy and CLiff did absolutely nothing for the team that they didn't do in 2008 to win the WS. Amaro gambled on pitching and defense, and sadly, it does not win titles anymore. Offense does. Sign Hamels, trade Cliff now, along with Pence and any other dead weight. MichaelZoe
signing hamels to a mega deal like that puts the phils 3-5 years from contending. That money is best spent on a couple professional hitters. This team sorely lacks that. thingfish
I have to say, I totally agree with MichaelZoe's comment above. Hamels is home grown, has made roots here, lives in Philly year round, pay the man. 140 mil for 6 years is more than fair. BigAfromBucks
Many post-ers here mock Amaro. I'm not among them. My point on Hamels is sign him if we can, trade him if we can't. I'd have no problem signing Hamels, at his age, and trading Lee in the off-season. We could enter 2013 with: Hamels, Halladay, Anibel Sanchez, Worley, KK/Cloyd. Fine. Use the Lee money on some hitting. eman
If Cole isn't a "must sign"..who is? He presents every attribute any MLB team desires. The Phils know this,a no brainer. In the mean time there must be something done immediately to find a third baseman and two relief pitchers. The present group appears to be destined (as constituted) to 3rd place in NL East. leecee
