Game 3 of the 2010 National League Championship Series will always be remembered as The Cody Ross Game because, as Cole Hamels said, "He's hitting pitches that most normal people can't hit at this time."
But Matt Cain was a major part of that day, tossing seven shutout innings while permitting two hits. Since then, Cain has started three more times against the Phillies. His line in those four starts combined:
31 IP, 11 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 7 BB, 18 K
That's not bad.
Cain, if you'll recall, threw a perfect game earlier this season. He started for the National League in the All-Star Game. He was also the other pitcher in that Cliff Lee 10-inning game back in April.
Since 2011, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz, Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino are a combined 2 for 38 vs. Cain. They are all in the lineup Saturday.
1. Jimmy Rollins 6
2. Shane Victorino 8
3. Chase Utley 4
4. Ryan Howard 3
5. Carlos Ruiz 2
6. Hunter Pence 9
7. Juan Pierre 7
8. Mike Fontenot 5
9. Cole Hamels 1
