PHOENIX —

UPDATE (7:50 p.m.): Hunter Pence is sidelined by a left shoulder injury.

EARLIER: Charlie Manuel did not specifically name Hunter Pence during his postgame lecture Sunday about his players pressing. But Pence is the best example. He made five outs with four swings Sunday and cost the Phillies three runs with his defense.

So Pence will sit on the bench for the first time all season in Monday's series opener vs. the Diamondbacks. He is 0 for his last 15.

That leaves Charlie Manuel with his 13th different lineup in 17 games.

1. Juan Pierre 7
2. Placido Polanco 5
3. Jimmy Rollins 6
4. Ty Wigginton 3
5. Shane Victorino 8
6. Carlos Ruiz 2
7. John Mayberry Jr. 9
8. Freddy Galvis 4
9. Kyle Kendrick 1

Kendrick starts opposite Wade Miley, a lefthander for Arizona. This was originally supposed to be Cliff Lee vs. Daniel Hudson but both pitchers went on the disabled list this past weekend.

Wigginton actually batted cleanup three times in 2011 with Colorado. Mayberry is in there despite 13 strikeouts in 40 at-bats.

lineup looks as formidable as some of those 1959 60 lineups....
like this one I picked randomly. Bobby Del Greco, BG Smith, Pancho Herrera, Wally Post etc. of course they started rebuilding that year
with Callison. This team is not rebuilding. But rehabbing.

Do you have a lineup from '62(?) when the Phils lost 23(?) in a row? That lineup would be comparable to today's.

The Phils lost 23 consecutive games from July 26 to August 20 in 1961.

Oh what fun this will be. I can see why Pence would need a day off right before the team gets a day off. Phillies fan for life; but I really think Charlie has lost his meds. :)

In San Diego they couldn't believe there was a worst hitting team than the Padres but then, Philly showed up.

    here's my comment posted Jan '12: Sent: 1/17/2012 12:36:49 P.M.
"inconsequential deal-- problem is NOT that they got Pineiro (or Willis for that matter)..problem is what they did NOT do -- all these meaningless bullpen and bench deals for low-cost garbage generally result in useless garbage (see,e.g. Baez, Schneider, Bruntlett, Herdon, Gload, etc) and Amaro has still failed to improve offense, bench and bullpen in 3 1/2 yrs - an intelligent g.m. does NOT max out his budget by putting ALL his pitching budget into a single overrated and overpaid closer and 2 great starters (cole will walk) but instead gets multiple quality relivers .. an intelligent g.m. does not put all his "offense" budget into a non-slugging so-called slugging 1st baseman with the rest of the offensive positions at best avg or below avg offensively and then can't afford a decent hitting 3rd baseman or any real quality on the bench.. a team can get to the post-season just on the strength of its starting pitching but the Amaro method is 0 for 3 in October and the numbers are unlikley to improve as the team is actually getting worse---meanwhile Amaro has squandered the Phils quality prospcts in his reckless manner of overspending for a few players, trading away all his prospects, while neglecting depth, balance, bench and bullpen, etc and the proof is in the pudding: and old team that has never won squat and has a meager future"

Hey Butch, how can you tell which post is which they are all the same? You have us all on pins and needles just guessing and wondering what the next one might be about. Like Bob Hope used to say "Thanks For The Memories" Tell us about Nostradamus predicting that Reuben was the Anti Christ.

and here's what I said Feb 1: "In a message dated 2/1/2012 5:03:22 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, writes: sisiege -- if you've followed Phils moves for past 3 1/2 you'd realize that they never make any logical sense, they just happen .. sometimes they end with a couple of quality players (Halladay, Lee) that has fans think that Amaro is some kind of genius but for the most part they just get a lot of "whatever happens to be out there for the price they feel like paying" and so Phils end up with mixed bags or bad bags like Ibanez, Polanco, Schenider, Gload, Baez, COntreras, Bowker, Willis, Nix, Pierre, Qualls, Herdon, Martinez, Francisco, etc etc -- no real depth, no attempt at balance -team makeup never makes any sense -- just hodgepodge of some good starting pitchers, some overpaid position players and whatever else clueless rube finds to fill 25 man roster --so-called "dogbiscuit" will be here soon enough to explain that there are no other viable options other then every single one of these specific acquisitions exactly as rube made them and that anyone who questions them is a "dope" and indeed a "tool" whatever that means and that passes for a spirited intelligent defense of cluless rube with most Phils fans on these blogs --g.l."
