MIAMI — The moribund Marlins have scored 16 runs in nine games. They are 1-8. They have one of the game's finest talents in slugger Giancarlo Stanton. On Friday, they will protect Stanton with Placido Polanco and Greg Dobbs.
Yes, this is the Land of Misfit Ex-Phillies. Polanco, hitting .333, is cleaning up for the fourth time this season. If you remember well, the Phillies sent him home before 2012 ended. Dobbs leads the team with one home run.
They also have Juan Pierre, who is leading off, and Chad Qualls, who has a 10.80 ERA.
