UPDATE (4:57 p.m.): Dobbs will report to Lehigh Valley on Friday.

Greg Dobbs, designated for assignment by the Phillies on Tuesday, has cleared waivers and will accept a minor-league assignment to triple-A Lehigh Valley, his agent said Wednesday.

It is unknown when Dobbs will report to Lehigh Valley.

"He will play every day (or most) in triple A in order to get his swing back to where it needs to be," his agent, Dan Horwits, said in an e-mail.

Dobbs, who will turn 32 on July 2, hasn't played in the minor leagues since 2006, when he was with triple-A Tacoma in Seattle's organization.

In 2010, Dobbs is hitting .152 (10 for 66) with the Phillies. As a pinch hitter, the role he thrived in during the 2008 championship season, he is 1 for 25.

The Phillies brass had expressed hope Dobbs would remain in the organization. They got their wish.
