Sarah Madson, wife of Phillies reliever Ryan Madson, has been quoted bashing Phillies fans during a recent interview with a blogger at a charity event.

Laura Goldman, who has written recently for Metro, quoted Sarah Madson on her blog Naked Philadelphian, saying "I hate the fans. It is bad enough that they bother us during the season, but they will not leave us alone in December when we go out to eat. We stayed here during the off season last year, but we will be going to California this year. There must be something particularly bad about Phillies fans because all the players leave in the off season.”

According to Goldman's blog, Sarah Madson, five months pregnant with the couple's fourth child, also complained about female fans of her husband. at the March 31 event for MANNA at the Loews Hotel. “Can you believe that they have the gall to give my husband their number in front of me?”

After Deadspin posted about the statements, the Crossing Broad blog uncovered some information about Goldman, such as the former stockbroker being on probation for stalking a financier over a 1996 situation with Boston businessman Thomas Lee. She was extradited from Israel in 2009 as a fugitive from justice.

"Ryan and Sarah enjoy playing in Philadelphia and have a great fondness for the city and the fans. They both look forward to a successful 2011 season," a spokesman for the Madsons told us Wednesday morning.

Goldman tells us she stands by her quotes of Madson, which were in a one-on-one interview she conducted during the MANNA fundraiser.

This story has been updated.

UPDATE: The Phillies have released a statement on the Madson matter:

"Sarah did not consent to an interview, but rather was approached by Ms. Goldman, who did not identify herself as a reporter. She began to ask many personal questions about the life of a wife of a professional baseball player. The comments reported by Ms. Goldman were taken completely out of context, and as a result, Sarah is extremely upset and feels violated by the situation. Sarah says, "For every one fan that may upset us, there are 99 Phillies fans that we love. We have lived here for years, have many friends, neighbors and acquaintances -- who also happen to be Phillies fans -- for whom we have the utmost respect. The Madsons would like to dispel this misleading information which indicates that they have anything but admiration for the fans in Philadelphia."

And Goldman has now responded to the Phillies statement:

"The Phillies on behalf of Ryan and Sarah Madson have issued a response to my blog post. They did not refute that Sarah Madson said the comments that I reported.

They falsely allege that I did not identify myself as a reporter. That is just not true. I identified myself as a reporter several times and even Ryan and Sarah Madson for a joint interview after my conversation with Sarah.

As far as the false allegation that I took things out of context, Sarah was pretty clear on her hate for the fans. It was not possible to misconstrue.

I hope that this clears up any questions about my credibility," she posted.

would you prefer to be spending your nights in Reading?
    just shut up.
be thankful that anyone even looks at you or your husband.
maybe you should move back to Cali. and blend in with the rest of the fake people.

blunted1...thanks for the comic relief. May be the real problem is that there was no resistance with the Q-tip.

these things always crack me up. We as fans demand our athletes be tough and accept our booing (we paid our money!!) yet when anyone criticize us in any little way, we cry like little babies. Grow a set people.

The sad part is, while she is absolutely right about many fans being obnoxious, attention-seekers; her comment has just made everything worse. Sometimes Mrs. Madson, it's better to keep your mouth shut, especially when talking about the people that you must live in the vicinity of for 7 months out of the year. You've just made your life here much much worse.

Why does anyone even ask a player's spouse about how they feel about the fans? They arent the ones out there in front of 45K every night. Of course, she is going to be annoyed by them but guess what if they werent bothering them, her hubby wouldnt be doing his job.

Good for her. It's incredibly rude to bother anyone during their dinner, and it reeks of fanboy loserdom. Nowhere else can you find such entitled nobodys as sports fans.

Here's what I don't get with these women. Did they NOT know what they were getting in to when they married these men? Can she really be this naive? Annoying. Very annoying.
