Brundage hired as Lehigh Valley manager

The Phillies hired Dave Brundage Thursday to replace Ryne Sandberg as the manager at triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Brundage, a Phillies fourth-round draft pick in 1986, had worked as a triple-A manager in the Atlanta Braves' system since 2007.

"With Dave's success and experience at the triple-A level, we feel he is the ideal person to manage the IronPigs," said Joe Jordan, the Phillies' director of player development. "His resume speaks for itself."

Brundage, 48, led Atlanta's triple-A Richmond club to the International League title in 2007 and has an overall record of 1,085-1,027 in 14 seasons as a minor-league manager. Before joining the Braves, he had spent 19 years with the Seattle Mariners' organization as a player, coach and manager.

After a career at Oregon State University, he spent two years as a player in the Phillies' minor-league system, going as high as double-A Reading. He was drafted as an outfielder and first baseman and later became a pitcher in the Mariners' minor-league system.

The Phillies did not announce any of their other minor-league staff positions.
