Antonio Bastardo out with self-inflicted wound

POSTED: Friday, June 15, 2012, 11:11 PM

TORONTO — The left side of Antonio Bastardo's face looks as if he entered a boxing ring, but he merely stepped foot in the weight room Wednesday. It was after he allowed a run to Minnesota and he was not pleased with his effort.

He took his anger out on a squat machine, which returned the favor. He required stitches to close a large cut above his left eye, which was nearly swollen shut after Friday's game.

Bastardo insisted he could see out of the eye, and demonstrated by covering his right one and pretending to punch a reporter in the face. But he was not available to pitch Friday barring an emergency situation and could need a few more days to recover.

A large bandage covers the gash.

Are baseball players really this fragile compared to other professional sports? Baseball is a non-contact sport and they have more injuries than the other sports. I say baseball players are weak and fragile especially compared to hockey and football players.

This team is now just a double A squad, Just shut Howard and Utley down for the rest of the year, and hope they can play next year

    Agreed.

I expect some fans to start self-inflicting some wounds. Leaping from the Diamond Club?????

@Zub, where's Dudeskins? Hope his health is holding out.

Seeing as how the Diamond Club is field level, I would hope those injuries would be slight.

Dude is fine, Dad. Saw him over at the Ruiz article. He's aged quite a bit, though. :)

"He took his anger out on a squat machine, which returned the favor."

So what happened? Did he run face first into the squat machine?

yep...Phillies has been cursed...I bet if you check the Nationals GM's desk, you'll find a whole drawer full of dolls wearing Phillies uniforms with pins all over em...I've never seen so many injuries on one team in one season.. and we aren't even half way through the season yet... ((smh))
