Gordon has another set-back
Just received word here in the press box that veteran reliever Tom Gordon left his rehab appearance tonight in Florida with discomfort in his right elbow. It is apparently serious enough that the righthander will fly back to Philadelphia and see team doctor Micahel Ciccotti tomorrow. Gordon had been attempting to battle back from elbow inflammation.
More when I get it after the game. . .
Gordons done Put a fork in him. Off the topic,Can anyone answer this question. How many of Steve Carltons strike outs were of other pitchers ?
It's not like Bill Conlin wasn't saying this at beginning of the season or anything. The Phillies just chose to look at it with rose-colored glasses, just like they did with Freddy Garcia.
shamrock1:
663 according to baseball-reference.com (check out career splits)
Carlton was so much fun to watch, wasn't he? Plus, he was a horse - just a huge presece on the hill.
I'd be lying if I said I cared. Throw him on the scrap heap with Rudy Seanez, Turk Wendell, Wayne Gomes, and Heathcliff Slocumb.
and Chad Ogea (if I even spelled the guys name right)
Didn't Heathcliff Slocumb win or come in 2nd for the Cy Young or award for the closers (Rolaids or Fireman or something like that) after he left the Phils? Seattle I think?
Little known fact...last Phillie to record a WIN in an All-Star Game?
Heathcliff Slocumb.
Flash had a long and somtimes distinguished career, unlike Gomes et al.
A bit harsh to classify him with the names mentioned above.
well, we got him "on the cheap" as a 3 yr. replacement for "the Rat" and even though he broke down the last two yrs and at times erratic, I'm kinda also happy Wagner is gone!
Murph, I got on the train this morning, eager to read your report on the game, and I got -- an AP story? What happened? Are you OK?
You guys are forgetting what Flash did in late August and September for us last year. He was a big part of why we made it to the post season. And the horrible play by the Mutts. Sorry had to say it.
