Andy: That wasnt bad. Perhaps would be more fun after Friday, if you have agent/player sightings to share (who's agent RAJr had lunch with, who was seen in AC, etc). I get the impression fans anticipating a 'Phiggins' signing will be in for a disappointment

Do you think the team should retool based on what happened in the World Series? I don't, they won the NL pretty handily, then seemed to play uncharacteristically quite poorly during the series, especially defensively. Their much malighed bullpen and weak bench got them through the long slog, but their offense killed them during that 6 games against the Yanks.

Not sure if you were asked this or not, but is there any chance they will go after Dan Uggla? It looks like some of the teams he is being talked about going to would use him as a 3rd baseman

Someone in the chat mentioned Brian Schneider - I think would be a good pickup for the backup catcher spot. He's a bit of a better hitter than Bako, (+20 pts career BA), he's from the Lehigh Valley, (yes, Iron Pigs country, and B in DC country), and his high school nickname was "Hoops". Maybe the Sixers could get some use out of him also. Plus it's almost like getting a hometown guy, though I have no idea if he liked the Phils in his younger days. We didn't "hang out" or anything.

Granted Pedro Feliz did underachieve as a Philly, he did hit .336 with RISP last year, and he drove in 82 runs from the 7-hole..how is that "a truly terrible offensive player"??? He's no Mike Schmidt, but he gloved it like Schmidtty did, and he had the clinching hit in game 5 of the world series...but I guess he got lucky.....just like those 82 RBI's......moron.....if you are gonna speak, please speak intelligently!!!! unless of course you are biased, which I thought the media was supposed to be unbiased....but whatever...maybe you should write for the NY Post........thats how they roll!!!!

Feliz is indeed a truly terrible offensive player. He is the most undisciplined hitter I've ever seen. A pitcher who gives up a hit to Feliz should be embarrassed--or fined. Just don't throw him a strike. Low and away, or up at the eyes. It doesn't matter--he'll swing. And more than likely, he'll either strike out or hit a weak bouncer to shortstop.

Despite his cost, wouldn't Figgins be a wise acquistion given his (1) ability to play outfield as well as 3rd base (and, 2nd?), (2) his speed and base-stealing abilities, and (3) his superiority to JRoll as a lead-off hitter? Just imagine a line-up with Figgins, JRoll and Victorino! The defense would need TWO catchers to hold down that crew.... and I have left out Utley. Maybe I have left somwething out, but a 3-fer is pretty good.

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover
Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.
This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
