Phils' Utley wins 4th slugger award
Phillies second baseman Chase Utley won his fourth straight National Leauge Silver Slugger award yesterday.
The award goes to the best offensive player at each position in each league. Managers and coaches vote on the award, but are not allowed to vote for players on their team.
Utley hit .282 with 31 homers and 93 RBI while helping the Phillies win their second consecutive NL title.
Meanwhile, lefthanded relief pitcher Scott Eyre, 37, declared for free agency. Eyre had elbow surgery Monday. He is considering retiring or returning to the Phillies, if he and the team can strike a deal.
