Rollins, Victorino again get Gold Gloves
Rollins won his third consecutive National League Gold Glove at shortstop yesterday, while Victorino claimed his second straight in the outfield.
Rollins, who will turn 31 on Nov. 27, led all major-league shortstops with a .990 fielding percentage and made just six errors, fewest among full-time big-league shortstops. He had an 86-game errorless streak during the season.
Rollins is the first NL shortstop to win three straight Gold Gloves since Rey Ordonez did so with the New York Mets (1997-99). He is the first Phillie to win three in a row at any position since Mike Schmidt won nine straight at third base from 1976 to 1984.
Victorino, known for his speed and strong throwing arm, had a .997 fielding percentage, second-best among NL outfielders. He made just one error and ranked sixth in the league in outfield putouts (336) and tied for fifth in outfield assists (eight). Victorino will turn 29 on Nov. 30.
Gold Glove awards are voted on by major-league coaches and managers before the end of the season.
St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina and San Diego first baseman Adrian Gonzalez also won for the second time.
Houston outfielder Michael Bourn, a former Phillie, was a first-time winner, along with Los Angeles outfielder Matt Kemp, Washington third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, and St. Louis pitcher Adam Wainwright.
Dodgers second baseman Orlando Hudson won for the fourth time.
