Revere says rib injury is not serious

Saying he had a sore rib, Phillies centerfielder Ben Revere was not in the starting lineup for the first time this season in Friday's game against the Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park.

Revere, who said he hurt the rib making one of two diving catches on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers, was replaced in the starting lineup by Tony Gwynn Jr.

"I got a little sore rib right now but it is really nothing serious," Revere said before Friday's game. "I want to take a precaution but I will be fine."

Manager Ryne Sandberg said Revere was tender on Thursday's but still played in the Phillies 6-2 loss to the Brewers.

"It affected his swings to some extent (Thursday) so it is a good chance for him to mend up a little bit give him a little break," Sandberg said.

Sandberg said he hoped Revere could return Saturday but at this point couldn't be sure.

"Ben is day to day," Sandberg said.

Revere is hitting .293 with a .326 on base percentage.
