First baseman Chris McGuiness, pitchers Sean O'Sullivan, Kevin Slowey invited to spring training.

THE PHILLIES signed three players to minor league contracts yesterday: first baseman Chris McGuiness, and righthanded pitchers Kevin Slowey and Sean O'Sullivan.

All three players received invitations to spring training as nonroster invitees. Pitchers and catchers will hold their first workout in Clearwater, Fla., on Feb. 19.

McGuiness, 26, hit .264 with a .770 OPS and nine home runs in 126 games at Indianapolis last season, the Triple A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He appeared in 10 big-league games with Texas in 2013.

Slowey, 30, went 1-1 with a 5.30 ERA in 17 games with the Miami Marlins last season; he was designated for assignment in June. Slowey is 43-36 with a 4.62 ERA in seven big-league seasons with Miami and Minnesota. He had his best season in 2008, going 12-11 with a 3.99 ERA and two shutouts in 27 starts with the Twins.

O'Sullivan, 27, was with the Phillies organization in 2014. He went 6-10 with a 4.30 ERA in 25 starts at Triple A Lehigh Valley and went 0-1 with a 6.39 ERA in three games (two starts) with the Phillies.
