THE FLYERS had Kate Smith, the Royals have SungWoo Lee.

Lee doesn't sing, but he's every bit a good-luck charm as Kate was.

Lee, a self-professed Royals "Super Fan," is jetting from South Korea to Kansas City to attend Game 1 of tonight's World Series opener pitting the Royals against the Giants.

He's said he likes to root for the underdog and has been a Royals fan for some 20 years.

When he visited KC in August, he was invited to throw out the first pitch at a game. During his stay, the team went 9-1, including a three-game sweep of the Giants.

That caught the attention of filmmaker Josh Swade, who produced one of ESPN's "30 for 30" documentaries.

During the Royals' playoff run, Swade traveled to Seoul to chronicle Lee's experience. When KC advanced to the World Series, Swade started a Twitter campaign to persuade Lee's boss to give him time off to attend tonight's game.

It worked.

You can expect Lee to get the Royal treatment when he arrives in town this afternoon.

According to @TheFakeNed, a Twitter profile page devoted to everything Royals, KC fans are being asked to welcome Lee at the airport by 12:45 p.m.

No word on whether

he'll throw out tonight's first pitch, but the cameras will no doubt find him.

He'll be the guy wearing the Royals jacket with a "Super Fan" emblem prominently displayed.

Yesterday, Lee posted a smiling photo of himself on Twitter and tweeted, "Are you ready KC?? SungWoo bring it all good luck."

That prompted a quick reply from the Royals, who tweeted, "We're ready! #TakeTheCrown"

Good Lorde!

Two San Fran radio stations are refusing - tongue in cheek, of course - to play the hit song "Royals" by Lorde.

Seems a good countermove would be for KC stations to ban any song by They Might Be Giants.
