Touch 'Em All: Tanaka suffers setback

Injured Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka is being sent back to New York because of general soreness in his right arm, a setback in his bid to rejoin the rotation this season.

The Japanese star is 12-4 with a 2.51 ERA in his first season in the majors. He hasn't pitched since July 8 as he recovers from a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, and the Yankees hope he can return for a playoff push.

Girardi said it would be "maybe a week" until Tanaka throws his next bullpen session.

I scream, you scream ... Jesus Montero will not play baseball again this season for the Seattle Mariners organization after a heated confrontation - reportedly sparked by an ice cream sandwich - in the stands with a team scout during a minor-league game in Boise, Idaho.

Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik called the actions of Montero and cross-checker Butch Baccala "unacceptable."

The argument came Thursday night during a single-A game between the Boise Hawks and Seattle's affiliate, the Everett AquaSox. Montero was with the single-A club while recovering from an oblique injury in the hopes that the first baseman and designated hitter could be a possible September addition to the Mariners when rosters expand.

What happened next, Zduriencik would not specify. reported Baccala had an ice cream sandwich sent to the dugout for Montero, who reported overweight and out of shape to spring training in February.

Frustrated Puig sits. Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers is out of the starting lineup because manager Don Mattingly said the outfielder seemed frustrated.

"I wouldn't call it rest today," Mattingly said. "I think it's probably more a frustration day."

Puig pinch-hit in the seventh inning but struck out. He is in an 0-for-17 slump.
