Teixiera backs Tanaka as Yankees beat Rays 9-3
Since August 2012, Teixeira has hurt a wrist and hamstring, missing most of last season and half of the first month of this season. He's back looking like his usual bashing self - just in time to help Tanaka on Saturday. He homered for the fourth time in his last five games and drove in three runs as the Yankees rallied past the Rays, 9-3, to stop a season-high three-game losing streak.
"It's been a struggle the last year coming back from this injury, but so far the results have been good this year," Teixeira.
In 14 games this season, he has five homers to tie for the team lead and has 10 RBIs.
Red Sox 6, Athletics 3 - Jon Lester struck out a career-high 15, allowing one hit over eight scoreless innings, and his teammates hit three homers - one a grand slam by Jonny Gomes - in Boston's win over visiting Oakland.
David Ortiz and David Ross had solo homers in Boston's second straight win after losing a day-night doubleheader to Tampa Bay on Thursday. Lester (3-4) struck out nine of his first 13 batters.
Twins 6, Orioles 1 - Joe Mauer and Brian Dozier both homered to help Minnesota end a four-game losing streak - at home, no less - with a pounding of Baltimore. Mauer had three hits and four RBIs to help Kevin Correia (1-3) get his first win of the season.
