Baseball Notes: Indians release Francoeur

Veteran outfielder Jeff Francoeur was released by Cleveland on Saturday. The Indians signed the 30-year old to a minor-league free-agent contract on Jan. 6 and invited him to major-league training camp.

Francoeur had 35 at-bats with the Tribe this spring, hitting .286 with one home run and 10 RBI.

Francoeur played 59 games for Kansas City last season, hitting .208 with three home runs and 13 RBIs. He was released by the Royals on July 5 and signed by San Francisco four days later. Francoeur hit .194 for the Giants in 22 games with no home runs and four RBIs.

Braves' opener: Teheran

Righthander Julio Teheran, who was 14-8 with a 3.20 ERA last year as a rookie, was told he would will get the opening-day start for the Atlanta Braves on March 31 against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
