Phillies sign veteran infielder
Reid Brignac signs a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training.
THE PHILLIES have signed veteran infielder Reid Brignac to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training.
Brignac, who turns 28 in January, is a versatile, lefthanded-hitting reserve who provides inventory, not unlike the roles Michael Martinez and Pete Orr have held in the last few seasons. A former top prospect with the Tampa Bay Rays, Brignac hit .185 in 46 games with the Colorado Rockies and New York Yankees in 2013.
Brignac is a career .221 hitter with a .573 OPS in 302 games with Tampa, Colorado and New York. Brignac, who has played second base, third base, shortstop and both corner outfield positions in his big-league career, started 12 games at shortstop last year for the Yankees.
