Some details on Delmon Young's deal

DELMON YOUNG signed a contract for a guaranteed $750,000 on Tuesday. It was a $6 million pay cut from the $6.75 million he earned last season with Detroit.

But Young can earn as much as $2.75 million in incentives. One pertains to his weight.

Young, 27, who has had conditioning issues in the past, can earn an additional $600,000 if he stays under weight throughout the 2013 season.

According to contract details from the Associated Press, the Phils will call Young to the scales six times throughout the season; they can choose the time and place.

Young can earn $100,000 for each time he makes weight. He has to be under 230 the first three weigh-ins and under 235 in the latter three.

When he met with reporters Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park, Young said he weighed 238 pounds. On Opening Day last season, he weighed in at 225 pounds.

* It pays to stick around: Young would earn a $250,000 bonus for being on the active roster for 1 day, and $100,000 each for 40, 80, 120 and 160 days.

* It pays to play: He can earn $1.5 million in performance bonuses: $150,000 each for 250, 300, 350 and 400 plate appearances; $200,000 apiece for 450 and 500; and $250,000 each for 550 and 600.
