Wednesday night was a tough one for Joe Girardi.

The Yankees manager interrupted his own postgame interview to confront a shouting White Sox fan.

As reported by the New York Post, the scene took place in the bowels of U.S. Cellular Field after New York's 2-1 loss. Reporters gathered around Girardi to discuss the Yankees' three-game sweep by the White Sox.

Girardi fielded a question, when a voice emerged from behind the media throng - a fan talking trash about the Yankees.

The manager remained composed for a few seconds, but as the yelling continued, he exploded, the moment captured by CSN Chicago's cameras.

"Hey, hey, hey! Hey, shut up! I'm doing an interview!" Girardi yelled, walking toward the rowdy fan, who was leaving.

Girardi then walked back to the throng of reporters to resume the interview.

Nova on DL

In other Yankees news, New York put pitcher Ivan Nova on the 15-day disabled list because of inflammation in his right rotator cuff.

The Yankees made the move Thursday after an MRI exam revealed the problem. The team said that treatment would consist of medicine and rest, and that the righthander would not play catch for five days.

Nova is 11-7 with a 4.92 ERA. He has struggled lately and took the loss Tuesday night against the White Sox.

Earlier this week, Girardi said David Phelps would be the primary candidate to fill in if Nova had to miss a start.

The Yankees were off Thursday. They begin a series Friday night in Cleveland, and ace CC Sabathia is set to come off the disabled list to start.

Moving past Melky

The San Francisco Giants said they had to move on after Melky Cabrera's 50-game suspension for a positive drug test. They've done just that, regaining the NL West lead and going 5-2, heading into Thursday night's game against the Braves, since his punishment was announced last week.

Solid pitching by Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum, and Matt Cain, along with hot-hitting from Angel Pagan on a just-completed road trip allowed the Giants to extend their division lead to 21/2 games.

They beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-4, on Wednesday night for their first three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium in five years. The Giants arrived in Los Angeles trailing the Dodgers by a half-game and they left with their largest lead in a month.

Tribe manager safe

Indians owner Paul Dolan said that manager Manny Acta's job is safe for now, and that he was not planning any overhaul of the team's front office despite Cleveland's stunning losing skid.

The Indians have lost 21 of 25 games, including eight straight. They face the Yankees at home this weekend.
