Phillies shortstop prospect Freddy Galvis was removed from the lineup of his Venezuelan baseball team on Tuesday and has missed two games because of soreness in his right wrist, according to a Venezuelan news report.

A representative for Galvis' agent confirmed that he saw a doctor on Tuesday afternoon for the wrist. Galvis did not play in Wednesday night's game.

Gerardo Boscan, the sports editor of Mi Diario newspaper in Maracaibo, Venezuela, reported Wednesday morning via Twitter that Galvis was removed from the lineup for discomfort in his right wrist. That's the throwing hand of the smooth fielding shortstop.

Galvis is listed as day-to-day, Boscan said.

The 21-year-old Venezuelan native began play last week for Aguilas de Zulia of the Venezuelan Winter League. In September, Galvis was named the Phillies' top position-player prospect.

In four games in Venezuela, Galvis was hitting .273 in 11 at-bats with three walks and just one strikeout. He's batted in the eight-hole for Aguilas. He also batted primarily in the bottom of the order for triple-A Lehigh Valley after being promoted there in August.

If the Phillies are unable to or choose not to sign shortstop Jimmy Rollins, Galvis is one of their best in-house options. Last season, he hit a combined .278 between double-A Reading and Lehigh Valley, including .298 in 33 games in Lehigh Valley.

Also listed on the Aguilas roster with Galvis are seven other Phillies minor-leaguers, including second baseman Harold Garcia. Both Galvis and Garcia are also on the Phillies' 40-man roster. The 24-year-old Garcia suffered a knee injury early last season with Reading and missed the rest of the year.
