HAT'S A NICE MOVE BY PADRES FAN

WE DON'T know his name, but he is the opposite of Steve Bartman.

You remember Bartman, the idiot Cubs fan who prevented Chicago outfielder Moises Alou from catching a foul ball, thereby starting a domino effect that led to the Cubs losing the 2003 NLCS?

Well, Saturday in Phoenix there was - as Yogi Berra might say - a similar situation, only different.

A Padres fan reached out with his glove and snatched a foul ball away from Diamondbacks rightfielder Justin Upton with one out in the ninth inning.

What happened next was priceless.

Upton glared at the fan, who simply pointed to the emblem on his hat: the Padres' "SD."

Take that, Justin!

Sure, the umpire should have called fan interference. But, the Padres were losing at the time and, in fact, fell to the Diamondbacks, 3-1.

Say what you will, but if a Phillies fan did the same thing to a Mets outfielder, we'd elect him mayor.

College golf teams rarely make news, but when they do . . . look out.

Or better yet, don't look.

Fourteen members of the Bethany College men's team have been suspended for one match after posting a nude team photo on Facebook.

Some media outlets are calling it an "unofficial" nude team photo, but we think that's rather redundant.

The golfers covered their genitals with a variety of golf items, including - you'll pardon the pun - head covers.

The school is located in Lindsborg, Kan., in the central part of the state.

Team captain Jack Hiscock - yes, that's his real name - is on record as saying he would appeal the suspension to the school president.

Virginia Union beat visiting St. Augustine's, 12-0, in a football game Saturday that began just as Hurricane Irene started to pelt Richmond.

According to Virginia Union sports information director Jim Junot, the game featured punts that traveled minus-1 and minus-9 yards.
