Playing at: Lakewood (A)

Position: Starting pitcher

Height: 6-3. Weight: 190.

Age: 22.

Born: May 11, 1989 in Atlanta.

Bats: Right. Throws: Right.

How obtained: Drafted in the seventh round (No. 231 overall) in 2010.

This season: Coasted through the first 2 months, but has been roughed up a bit in his last three starts (1-2, 7.88 ERA) . . . Overall, Buchanan is 8-4 with a 3.21 ERA. He leads the South Atlantic League in wins and will start tonight's SAL All-Star Game (at Delmarva in Salisbury, Md., 7:30 p.m.) for the North Division . . . Was the league's pitcher of the month for May when he went 4-2 with a 2.06 ERA.

Kid stuff: Was born in Atlanta and grew up in Fayetteville, Ga., about 15 minutes from Turner Field. "My family still loves the Braves, but now that I'm with the Phillies, they're starting to pull the other way," Buchanan said. "[His sister] Sarah can't convert to being a Phillies fan, but she says when I'm playing she'll root for me."

Favorite memory: Was at the Braves' game in 2007 when John Smoltz picked up his 200th career win. Oddly enough, Tom Glavine was the opposing pitcher for the Mets. "Every time [Smoltz] had two strikes, the crowd just got up on their feet and cheered. Seeing stuff like that makes you want to get to the big leagues."

Favorite sports movies: Tin Cup and Sandlot.

Most difficult thing he's ever had to endure: He pitched on May 17, the day after his grandfather, Bill Chappell, passed away. Buchanan was lifted after giving up five runs and five walks in 3 innings to Delmarva earlier this season. "That was my worst start of the season. I wasn't there mentally or physically. I was just emotionally destroyed."

That adds up: Has a goal to go back to college to get a degree in mathematics.

Dream dinner guests: George W. Bush, Abraham Lincoln and Andy Stanley, his pastor at North Point Community Church.

Hobbies: Is an avid golfer, who shoots in the 80s. His fantasy foursome would be "Tiger, Jack and my grandpa, Bill."

Tiger sighting: Attended a golf exhibition held by Tiger Woods in Atlanta when he was 12. "It's just unreal what that man can do with a golf club and a ball. It's unreal."
