Here's a look at the Clearwater rotation, including a scouting report from Threshers pitching coach Dave Lundquist:

JARRED COSART

Righthander

Height: 6-3 Weight: 180

Born: May 25, 1990

Obtained: 38th-round draft choice out of Clear Creek High School (League City, Texas) in 2008

2011 stats: 4-3, 3.17, 54.0 IP, 42 H, 19 W, 38 K, 1.13 WHIP

Lundquist: "He's very strong. He's one of the most competitive kids you're going to be around. He'll light up the radar gun mid- to high-90s. We're really trying to get his breaking stuff a lot tighter. He's working hard on that and is getting better from week to week. And the changeup he's throwing has really become a plus pitch for him, making his fastball that much better. He's a hard worker and sometimes is a little hard on himself. He demands perfection. And I think the good ones do. He'll pitch at 93, 94. He hits 97. So he's running it up there pretty good. He's come back very strong [from a right elbow strain]."

Did you know: That Cosart had projected as a third- or fourth-round selection in the draft, but slipped because many teams expected him to attend the University of Missouri? The Phillies signed him for $550,000.

BRODY COLVIN

Righthander

Height: 6-3 Weight: 195

Born: Aug. 14, 1990

Obtained: Seventh-round draft choice out of St. Thomas More Catholic High School (Lafayette, La.) in 2009

2011 stats: 0-1, 4.96, 16.1 IP, 16 H, 5 W, 11 K, 1.29 WHIP

Lundquist: "I really haven't gotten to see a lot of him. He had the back issue that sidelined him most of April, but seeing the way he's throwing now, there's some deception in his delivery. He'll run it up mid-90s as well, with a good changeup and an improving breaking ball."

Did you know: That Colvin probably would have been a first- or second-round draft pick, but most teams were convinced he was going to attend LSU? The Phillies signed him for $900,000.

TREVOR MAY

Righthander

Height: 6-5 Weight: 215

Born: Sept. 23, 1989

Obtained: Fourth-round draft choice out of Kelso (Wash.) High School in 2008

2011 stats: 3-2, 4.13, 48.0 IP, 41 H, 23 W, 61 K, 1.33 WHIP

Lundquist: "He's a kid who'll show a power fastball as well, a 12-6 breaking ball and at times an above-average changeup. We're still making steady progress on getting a consistent delivery so he's able to drive the ball down. He's developing just as we planned."

Did you know: That May was the valedictorian of his high school class?

JONATHAN PETTIBONE

Lefthander

Height: 6-5 Weight: 200

Born: July 19, 1990

Obtained: Supplemental draft choice between third and fourth rounds out of Esperanza High School (Anaheim, Calif.) in 2008

2011 stats: 4-3, 1.98, 54.2 IP, 47 H, 11 W, 41 K, 1.06 WHIP

Lundquist: "He's very consistent in what he does. He has a routine and he's very self-disciplined. Command of his fastball has been good. Has a solid average changeup. His slider is a pitch we're still working on, but just like the other guys it's getting better and better. Week to week he's making steady progress. When he's on the mound, you can't tell if he's winning 10-0 or losing 10-0. He doesn't look like a 20-year-old kid out there."

JULIO RODRIGUEZ

Righthander

Height: 6-4 Weight: 195

Born: Aug. 29, 1990

Obtained: Eighth-round draft choice out of Puerto Rican Baseball Academy in 2008

2011 stats: 5-2, 2.44, 44.1 IP, 31 H, 17 W, 39 K, 1.08 WHIP

Lundquist: "We call his pitches The Invisibles. His fastball has a little bit of late cut. His breaking stuff can be OK at times; we're working on accelerating those pitches. His changeup is OK. The thing with him is that the deception is so great in his delivery, to where it's hard to pick the ball up. A lot of times the hitters don't pick the ball up until it's halfway there or already by them. That's one thing you can't teach, that natural deception. You look at the other guys who do have better stuff. But [deception] has given him a lot of success."

Did you know: That more than 75 players have been drafted out of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School, a non-profit organization that combines academics and athletics into one curriculum. Located outside San Juan, it is the only school in Puerto Rico or the United States with this kind of program. It was founded in 2001 by former big-league pitcher Edwin Correa.
