Angels' devilish prank

HEY MIKE TROUT, welcome to the big leagues. Trout, the Los Angeles Angels' top prospect, by way of Millville (N.J.) High, was the subject of a good-natured - and diabolically annoying - prank during yesterday's spring training game against the Oakland Athletics in Tempe, Ariz.

According to Kevin Baxter's blog for the Los Angeles Times, a message popped up on the rightfield scoreboard numerous times during the game exhorting fans to call "Mike Trout directly with your baseball questions."

The message was followed by Trout's real cell phone number.

The prank was the brainchild of pitcher Jered Weaver, who led the American League in strikeouts last season.

We tried to call the 19-year-old Trout to see if he enjoyed the practical joke, but we got a busy signal.

Dancing fools

The upcoming season of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" includes several cast members with ties to the sports world.

Last night, it was announced that former boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward, and Kendra Wilkinson, wife of former Eagle Hank Baskett, will all be on the show, which premieres March 21.

New 'official' catch phrase

We can't prove that Eli Roe said it, but if he did he just became our favorite NBA official.

On Sunday, the Lakers' Kobe Bryant missed a long shot against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The game was televised by ESPN and, after the miss, Bryant ran alongside Roe apparently arguing that he was fouled.

We couldn't hear what Roe replied to Bryant, but the announcer said, "Eli Roe, I think just said, 'Make the shot.' "

What a perfect comeback. In fact, we want to turn the ref's last name into a verb. From now on, whenever a whiny NBA player complains about not getting a call, we can all yell, "You got Roed!"
