You Talkin' to Me? It's time to start thinking parade

From: Fox, Ashley To: Gonzalez, John; Juliano, Joe Re: The Phils Let's take a break from the Eagles quarterback hysteria and talk about what's going on with the team that plays across the street. The Phillies have won 22 of their last 26 games, including 14 of the last 15, and their magic number to clinch the NL East is four. At 92-61, they've got a shot at 100 wins and a shot at the franchise high of 101 set in 1976 and 1977. In the last month, they've been nothing short of awesome.

Do you have any concern that they're peaking too soon? Or are they simply steamrolling into the postseason?

Re: The Phils

I bought two lawn chairs the other day. Right now my only concern is where to put them and which spot to stake out along Broad Street.

Re: The Phils

Since I'm filling in for Fitzy, I'll bring up the ghosts of 1964. I'm not talking about a regular-season collapse, I'm talking about premature elimination from the postseason. I worry about relying too much on five pitchers (three starters, plus Madson and Lidge). Both Halladay's and Madson's arms are going to fall off one of these days from too much work.

Re: The Phils

I'm not worried about the Big Three at all. Halladay is a machine, and Oswalt and Hamels have been lights-out. I'd like Rollins to get some work before the postseason cranks up.

I'm not shopping for real estate along Broad Street, but this certainly is going to be a fun ride.

Re: The Phils

Joe, you need to kick up the curmudgeon factor. You're far too reasoned and calm to be Fitzy.

Earlier in the year, while they were hampered by injuries and struggling to hit, they sometimes found ways to lose games. Now the starting pitching is outstanding and the bats are working and they're finding ways to win. It's nice to watch a team that's coming together as opposed to one that's falling apart.

Re: The Phils

Hey, Gonz, I'm trying. But I must say I've really enjoyed being involved the last two Octobers (Novembers?) and I'm looking forward to a third even if my pessimism button tends to light up from time to time.

Re: The Phils

Stay that way, Joe. It's refreshing. And clearly a departure from the normal participants in this exercise.
