Next time, keep your mouth shut
Tigers manager Jim Leyland was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball on Wednesday for "inappropriate and aggressive" conduct in Monday night's game against Tampa Bay.
Leyland was philosophical.
"You take your medicine and move on," Leyland said.
Find fun where you can
In the continuing absence of a Roy Oswalt trade, we bring you this instead: Cleveland sent third baseman Jhonny Peralta to Detroit for minor-league lefthander Giovanni Soto.
Peralta, hitting .246 with seven homers and 43 RBIs in 91 games, will likely fill-in for Brandon Inge, the Tigers' injured third baseman.
Trade speculation
Jon Heyman of SI.com offered the following information on possible AL trades:
The Tampa Bay Rays are talking with the Washington Nationals about Adam Dunn. The slugging first baseman has 23 home runs and will be a free agent at season's end. The Rays entered play Wednesday leading the AL wild-card race by five games over the Red Sox.
The Texas Rangers, who already have made the season's biggest move in acquiring Cliff Lee, also are pursuing Milwaukee's Prince Fielder. The White Sox and Angels also are interested in the slugging first baseman, who isn't a free agent until after next year. The Brewers are seeking young pitching and Texas has an excellent stash of prospects. The Rangers have also checked out Florida's Jorge Cantu, Baltimore's Ty Wigginton and the Cubs' Derrek Lee for their first base needs.

Nick Punto left the Twins' game against Kansas City with an apparent leg injury after bunting safely in the eighth inning. . . . Newly acquired Angels righthander Dan Haren said expects to make his next start as scheduled on Saturday despite a bruised forearm. The eight-year veteran has made 190 consecutive starts without missing a turn since 2005.
