Nolasco, Uggla trim Braves' lead

ATLANTA - Dan Uggla hit a homer and drove in all three runs, and Ricky Nolasco pitched seven strong innings to lead the Florida Marlins past the Atlanta Braves, 3-2, on Sunday.

Florida avoided a sweep in the three-game set as the Braves won each series in a 6-3 homestand.

The loss dropped Atlanta's lead in the NL East to two games over the Mets. The Braves, who lead the Phillies by five, are at Citizens Bank Park at 7:05 tonight.

Nolasco (8-6) set a season high with 11 strikeouts while allowing six hits and two runs with only one walk.

Tim Hudson (8-4), one of five Atlanta all-stars, gave up six hits and three runs in eight innings. Hudson walked one, struck out seven and finished with four straight scoreless innings.

Uggla was left off the NL All-Star roster as Phillies manager Charlie Manuel selected Braves utility infielder Omar Infante. Uggla, selected to the 2006 and 2008 All-Star Games, hit his 16th homer in the fourth to push Florida's lead to 3-1.

    Cardinals 7, Brewers 1

ST. LOUIS - Adam Wainwright threw a five-hitter and contributed a three-run double in St. Louis' win over Milwaukee.

Wainwright's double was the big hit in a five-run third as the Cardinals capitalized on consecutive fielding errors by shortstop Alcides Escobar. Starter Yovani Gallardo (8-4) was hurt on the second pitch to the next hitter, Tyler Greene, clutching his side and then departing after visiting with a trainer.

Corey Hart homered for the lone damage against Wainwright (12-5), who struck out nine and walked none for his fourth complete game of the season and seventh of his career.

    Reds 14, Cubs 3

CHICAGO - Drew Stubbs clubbed three of Cincinnati's season-high seven homers to lead a rout of fading Chicago.

The Reds ripped four homers in an eight-run seventh - all after Cubs starter Ted Lilly retired the first two batters.

The Reds won three of four from the Cubs and have now won four straight series. They won without Joey Votto, who was ejected in the first inning for arguing balls and strikes.

    Dodgers 3, Diamondbacks 1

PHOENIX - Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer off reliever Aaron Heilman in the eighth inning, and Los Angeles went on to beat Arizona to take two of three from the Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers' Chad Billingsley and Arizona's Dan Haren each allowed one run in their matchup. Billingsley left after six innings, and Haren after seven. That left it up to the bullpens, and it was no contest.

Hong-Chi Kuo (3-1) struck out six of the seven batters he faced in two scoreless innings to get the victory. Jonathan Broxton fanned two in a scoreless ninth for his 17th save in 19 opportunities.
