Baseball Notes: Hudson stays with Braves
Hudson could have returned to the Braves under a $12 million option, but the sides focused on a longer deal after the righthander showed he had overcome major elbow surgery.
His new deal calls for salaries of $9 million in each of the next three seasons. The Braves get a $9 million club option for 2013 with a $1 million buyout.
Nationals. Jim Riggleman shedded the interim title and was introduced as Washington's manager.
Neither the Nationals nor Riggleman's agent - who said he had to sign a nondisclosure agreement - would say anything about the terms.
Royals. Kansas City signed infielder Wilson Betemit to a minor-league contract.
Wetteland hospitalized. Former all-star closer John Wetteland, who is the bullpen coach for Seattle, was taken to a Dallas-area hospital.
According to Sgt. Roger Griggs of the Denton County Sheriff's office, a woman at Wetteland's home called 911 to say the 43-year-old Wetteland was complaining of being depressed, and contemplating suicide.
Wetteland was the MVP of the 1996 World Series with the Yankees.
