You Talkin' To Me?: Pick a manager; either manager
From: Gonzalez, John To: Ford, Bob; Jensen, Michael Subject: managers There's been a lot of talk about the managers of both clubs - who panicked, who didn't, who should have done what in which situation. Who did a better job - Charlie or Joe? And if you were hiring a manager for your imaginary team, which one would you pick?

What are you asking me for, where's Fitz?

You're the new Fitz. Make sure you (over) use ellipses when responding.

If I were hiring a manager for an imaginary team, it would be Yoko Ono. Imagine was one of my favorite albums. And she's an artist, so the lineup cards would be really neat and inventive.

Fine. I'll answer the question: Both managers made some curious moves. I think Girardi panicked a little bit by throwing Burnett on short rest, though. I'll go with Charlie, if only because he's a hell of a lot of fun to cover. BTW: Girardi is shockingly articulate and bright. Ford and I had this conversation the other day. I don't agree with all of his decisions (or even most of them), but there's a mind at work there.

You're giving Yoko credit for Imagine? Yoko used to hang with Charlie in his Tokyo days, no? (Fitz told me to say that). I'll be the homer here. If Girardi gets away with pitching a 37-year-old on three days' rest, more power to him. However it turns out, Charlie made the right rotation calls. During these playoffs, even when he's wrong, he's been right. Remember when I was the only guy in the Aux Box at Dodger Stadium saying he shouldn't be taking Pedro out in the NLCS? Even when he was wrong, he was right, since Pedro's arm was saved for another day, which was last night.

Hey, Gonz. Jensen's being serious. That's not allowed here. But since he started it, I don't think you can say either guy was right or wrong. They know their teams, they know their players, and there might be some things we don't know - and, more to the point, that fans don't know. I am a little mystified about the role that was given to J.A. Happ, but otherwise Charlie's moves were fine with me.
