Kendry Morales homered and drove in three runs, and the Los Angeles Angels wasted no time clinching their fifth AL West title in six seasons with an 11-0 victory over the second-place Texas Rangers last night.

Ervin Santana pitched a seven-hitter for his fourth career shutout, while Maicer Izturis had three hits and drove in two runs to wrap up the Angels' sixth playoff berth in eight seasons. Los Angeles (92-64) will open at home in the best-of-five first round next week.

The Angels' Bobby Abreu came a home run short of the cycle.

Needing one win in this four-game series to clinch their third straight division title, the Angels swiftly eliminated any suspense. But the visiting Rangers didn't provide much competition; besides no offense, they committed three errors.

In other games:

* At Boston, the Red Sox scratched ace Josh Beckett from his scheduled start and watched substitute Michael Bowden spot the Blue Jays seven runs in the first three innings en route to Toronto's rain-shortened 11-5 victory.

Boston could have clinched the AL wild card with a win, but Texas' loss to the Angels at least guaranteed the Red Sox a wild-card tie.

"We're in a pretty good place," Red Sox catcher Victor Martinez said. "Let's see what happens. We have to wait and come back tomorrow and play again."

Torrential rain suddenly began falling in the bottom of the seventh, when the Red Sox had one run in and two men on with nobody out in the seventh. The game was called after a delay of 62 minutes.

Jose Bautista, Aaron Hill and Rod Barajas homered for the Blue Jays, and Scott Richmond (8-10) won his second consecutive start after going 0-6 in his previous 10.

* At Cleveland, Gordon Beckham drove in three runs to help John Danks (13-10) earn his first win in more than a month and the White Sox beat the Indians, 6-1. Danks' first career complete game gave Chicago its third win in four games following a stretch of seven losses in eight games.

* At Detroit, steady rain postponed the opener of a crucial four-game series between the Tigers and Minnesota Twins. The first-place Tigers lead the Twins by two games with seven to play. The rainout will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader today.

If Detroit can win three of four against the Twins, it will win the division crown.

* At St. Petersburg, Fla., Pat Burrell hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth inning and pinch-hitter Willy Aybar had one of four Tampa Bay homers as the Rays extended the Baltimore Orioles' losing streak to 11 games with a 7-6 victory. Ben Zobrist opened the eighth with a double off Chris Ray (0-4) and went to third on B.J. Upton's grounder. Burrell's fly ball against Danys Baez broke the 6-all tie. Tampa Bay tied it at 6 on Aybar's three-run shot in the seventh off reliever Matt Albers.

* At New York, Robinson Cano capped a five-run seventh inning with a grand slam, Chad Gaudin made a case for a spot on the Yankees' postseason roster and a makeshift Yankees lineup beat Kansas City, 8-2, for the team's 101st win. A day after the securing their first AL East title since 2006, the Yanks rested most of their regulars for the opener of a three-game series against the Royals, the last AL squad to visit the new $1.5 billion Yankee Stadium.
