MIAMI - In a world that sometimes seems dominated by an around-the-clock sports loop, with highlights and analysis and rumors and stats breakdowns and opinions and replays from every conceivable angle forming the background to our lives, it should be darn near impossible for a major league ballplayer to fly under the radar.

Comment removed.- Joe Blanton is the Andre Eithier of the Phils. Here in So. CA, Eithier goes out, day in/day out and contributes. He is often overlooked and underrated because of presence of Manny Ramirez, who, thanks to all the media attention, sucks the air out of every room he is in. Same with Blanton. Because of all the drama with Ledge, is Hamels on or off today, Cliff Lee's arrival and quick 5-0 record, and so on, and Blanton gets overlooked. He helped us last year get to and win the World Championship. Let's hope he does so again this year. pajamas
Blanton has been very good. How can a mgr. walk Stairs to pitch to Rollins? How can amgr bring in a lefty to pitch to Victorino when RIghthanded is his much stronger side? Don w
I hope he has a long term contract or get one soon Wes south Jersey wes- i definitely feel comfortable with out starting picthing going into the playoffs. but its the back of the pen that scars me, especially the closer position.
Totally agree with Hagen. I've been saying Blaton has been their best pitcher. He eats up innings, too, ussually getting to the seventh inning. 76er

Come on, DiscoDave ... you didn't know who he was? He'd been a big-league pitcher for parts of five seasons. He'd had a 16-win season and a 14-win season. The Phils gave up a couple of pretty good prospects to get him. It's not like he came out of nowhere. GoPhilsGo
Remember his shocker world series homerun? Mr. Blanton won a place in my heart forever with that one. He's been solid for the Phils since he came from Oakland. He's a great pitcher and a real asset to the team. MB15213
