CINCINNATI - Colby Rasmus' homer started an eight-run onslaught against Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo, who is 1-5 in his last seven starts, while St. Louis ace Chris Carpenter bounced back from his worst game of the season.

Carpenter, coming off a 6-3 defeat to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, fanned Laynce Nix on a 94 m.p.h. fastball in the seventh inning with his 104th and final pitch.
