REDS 6, PHILLIES 2
Just as they had in the Game 1 of their first NLCS game the day before - and as they would 2 days later in Game 3 - the Phillies jumped out to an early lead against a Cincinnati Reds team that would sweep through seven postseason games.
Phillies righthander Jim Lonborg took a no-hitter in the sixth inning, riding a Bob Boone RBI single and a Greg Luzinski solo homer.
But future Phillie Pete Rose broke up the no-no with a single, the Big Red floodgates opened and it was quickly 4-2, and the Reds added two more in the seventh.
The Phils would blow a two-run, ninth-inning lead in losing Game 3, but the nucleus of what would become the 1980 World Champions was the better for getting a quick sniff of postseason play.
Fun Fact: The Phils outhit the Reds over the three games, 27-25.
