Hard times away from home
San Diego Padres pitcher and former Phillie Randy Wolf, making his first appearance in St. Louis since Aug. 16, 1999, took the loss in yesterday's 6-5 defeat and is now 6-10.
This season, the lefthander has had little success away from pitcher-friendly Petco Park, going 1-5 with a 6.63 ERA on the road. The Padres are 1-9 in his 10 road starts.
Wolf, who left the Phillies after the 2006 season and signed with the Dodgers as a free agent, was 9-6 with a 4.73 ERA in 18 starts for Los Angeles last year.
In eight seasons with the Phillies, he was 69-60.
Bids in for Cubs, Wrigley
On Friday, the Tribune Co. closed the preliminary round of bidding for the Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field, and the Cubs' 25 percent stake in a regional sports cable channel.
At least seven groups submitted opening bids, and a Chicago real-estate firm made an offer to buy Wrigley Field separately, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Major League Baseball must approve the sale of any team.
Quotable
Florida centerfielder Cody Ross, on Phillies veteran southpaw Jamie Moyer, who on Friday night beat the Marlins for the 10th time in as many starts:
"I don't know how he does it at 45 years old. You see his 82-m.p.h. fastball, and it looks good to hit. But it's never down the center of the plate."
