TIGERS 19, RANGERS 6

DETROIT - Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer and Carlos Guillen had three of his five RBIs in an 11-run sixth inning, and the Detroit Tigers routed the Texas Rangers, 19-6, last night.

Jacque Jones also homered as the potent Tigers posted their highest run total this season and handed Texas its sixth straight loss.

The Tigers led 7-6 going into the sixth, when they had their biggest inning since scoring 11 in the sixth inning on April 23, 2004, against the Cleveland Indians.

After Ivan Rodriguez sacrificed two runners over, Guillen hit a two-run double. Then, following a walk to Magglio Ordonez, Jamey Wright gave up Cabrera's three-run homer to make it 12-6.

Wes Littleton relieved and gave up the final six runs in the innings, hitting Ramon Santiago with the bases loaded for his first run. Curtis Granderson doubled in two more, Rodriguez hit a run-scoring double, Guillen had a sacrifice fly and Ordonez singled in the final run of the inning.

Clay Rapada (2-0) pitched 1 2-3 perfect innings in relief, striking out two.

Frank Francisco (0-1) allowed two runs in 2 1-3 innings of relief. Rangers' pitchers walked 10 and hit two batters.

Both starters were ineffective.

The Tigers' Kenny Rogers allowed six runs and nine hits in 31/3 innings. Texas' Luis Mendoza didn't make it out of the second, giving up five runs - two earned - and five hits in 12/3 innings.

RAYS 5, BLUE JAYS 3

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Jason Hammel allowed four hits in six innings and Evan Longoria drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single to help Tampa Bay rally against Roy Halladay and Toronto for a victory at Disney World.

The Rays improved to 5-0 in games they have played at the theme park and resort the last two seasons, in a series designed to bolster fan support in the Orlando area, about 90 miles east of the Rays' Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

Longoria's hit was the big blow in a four-run sixth against Halladay (2-3), who carried a 3-0 lead into the inning, thanks to a pair of homers by Matt Stairs.

Hammel (2-1) struck out two and walked four.

ANGELS 6, RED SOX 4

BOSTON - Casey Kotchman's solo home run put Los Angeles ahead in the sixth and Gary Matthews Jr. hit two solo homers of his own as Los Angeles snapped Boston's six-game winning streak.

Kotchman hit his sixth of the season off Craig Hansen. Matthews hit solo shots in the first and fifth off emergency starter Jon Lester, giving him four homers for the season and 100 for his career.

Lester, starting on three days rest, pitched in place of Daisuke Matsuzaka, who was scratched with flulike symptoms.

YANKEES 6, WHITE SOX 4

CHICAGO - Mike Mussina pitched seven strong innings and moved ahead of Bob Gibson on baseball's career wins list as New York won again without Alex Rodriguez, beating Chicago.

The Yankees' Jorge Posada, behind the plate for the second straight game after a sore right arm kept him from starting for two weeks, had four hits, including a career-high three doubles, and drove in two runs.

While Rodriguez missed his second game because of a strained quadriceps and the birth of his second daughter, the Yankees won their third straight and Mussina earned his 252d victory.
