The Milwaukee Brewers slugger, who finished third in NL MVP voting last season, had his deal renewed for $670,000 yesterday.

"I'm not happy about it at all," Fielder said at the Brewers' training camp in Phoenix. "The fact I've had to be renewed two years in a row, I'm not happy about it because there's a lot of guys who have the same amount of time that I do who have done a lot less and are getting paid a lot more.

"But my time is going to come. It's going to come quick, too."

The 23-year-old first baseman will be eligible for arbitration after this season.

Leftfielder Ryan Braun, the NL's rookie of the year last season as a third baseman, also had his contract renewed, for $455,000, as did rightfielder Corey Hart, who will make $444,000.

Orioles. Troy Patton ended his side session in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after throwing just 10 pitches, a setback that forced Baltimore to schedule another examination on the lefthander's ailing shoulder.

Patton, 22, made three starts with the Houston Astros last season before being sidelined in September with left biceps tendinitis. He came to Baltimore along with four players in a December trade for Miguel Tejada and was promptly labeled the front-runner for the fifth spot in the starting rotation.

Cubs. Chicago outfielder Alfonso Soriano will miss up to five days after he fractured his right middle finger during practice in Mesa, Ariz.

The team said the righthanded Soriano broke his finger while working on fly-ball drills.

Reds. Lefthander Bobby Livingston agreed to a one-year contract with Cincinnati. He had surgery in September to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and remains on the disabled list.

Livingston started 10 games for the Reds in 2007, going 3-3 with a 5.27 ERA.

The Reds also said they had signed Juan Duran, a 16-year-old outfielder from the Dominican Republic.
