The Texas Rangers optioned righthander Robinson Tejeda to triple-A Oklahoma and recalled righthander Wes Littleton. Texas manager Ron Washington said the former Phillie will not pitch for Oklahoma but instead work with pitching coach Mark Connor and bullpen coach Dom Chiti during the all-star break.

The New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez plans to play in the All-Star Game despite his strained left hamstring.

Yankees righthander Jeff Karstens threw 31/3 scoreless innings in his first minor-league rehabilitation start since breaking his right leg two months ago. He allowed three hits and a walk and struck out two against the Gulf Coast League's Phillies.

The Reds put infielder Juan Castro on the 15-day disabled list with a partially torn ligament in his throwing elbow. Righthander Kirk Saarloos was called up from triple-A Louisville, and righthander Jared Burton was reinstated from the DL after recovering from back spasms.

Last year's NL Cy Young Award winner, Brandon Webb of the Arizona Diamondbacks, will replace Colorado reliever Brian Fuentes, who has a strained back muscle, on the NL all-star roster.
