Victorino thanks fans with ad in Inquirer and Daily News
Matt Mullin
Athletes taking out full-page ads in local newspapers to thank fans is nothing new, but it is a small gesture that can go a long way towards leaving some good will as they depart from a city.
Today, Shane Victorino placed ads in both the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, saying "Mahalo Philadelphia, and to the amazing Phillies fans for all the GREAT memories!"
The Flyin' Hawaiian, as he's known to most fans, was always a class-act during his time in Philadelphia - look no further than his work revitalizing the Nicetown Boys and Girls Club - and continued his goodwill today by thanking the fans.
Mahalo, Shane.

a good man no doubt bout it
righty
class act,you bet butch61
Wish there was some way to bring him back in 2013. Amaro must know he does not have a CF for 2013. then again maybe not. Don w
Sometimes as fans we forget that when a player doesn't do well, that he can still be a good guy.. Shane will always be a good guy!! divergent_dan
Good Luck Victorino and thanks for the great memories! You will always have a place in Philadelphia's heart. Philly1977
Total class act, I hate losing players like Shane!! Especially when I have to read about the great Mick Vick and his book....I mean the dog killer and his (book) way to make more money while telling people to shut up and leave him alone. BTW.....divergent Dan, Shane had one half of a bad year that's it. He was a rule 5 guy that turned himself into a 2 time All Star. Amaziing story then for him to have probably 2-3 of the biggest hits in run to a WS championship in 08. I give him a pass for this year. I'm certain it wasn't only free agency on his mind, it was more the trade deadline. Even if the Phils were killing it they would still have thought about dealing him since they'd lose him at year end. Tough for a guy to play with so much uncertainty Phinally
He could be back, ya never know with RAJ. Cliff Lee is back. gho_matt
Will never forget his grand slam against Sabathia in game 2 of the NLDS in '08, and also his home run to tie the game against the Dodgers before Stairs hit the winning home run. Shane has always been a good guy. He will be missed in Philly. starman76
Nobody should ever wear number 8 again! samruta
Godd riddance hot dog. Your expiration date on good play ended about 3 years ago. Not a very smart hitter and quite an irritating personality in the club house. A know it all and hyper irritant. Self centered but other than that a nice guy. Nice grandslam against CC. He should have been traded 3 years ago. tycobb
Great gesture. Shane will be missed...some good memories left behind. dogman5
You're right samruta, Bob Boone's number SHOULD be retired.
Thatsaid, Victorino had as much to do with the Phils' successful run as any player. Thanks Shane. thewiseone
Mahola, and thanks for being you. I never thought I would favor another center fielder as much as I did Whitey Ashburn but, sad to see you go. Rumrunner11
Tycobb, you were a dirty player and you are a mean spirited blogger. Oh well. Rumrunner11
I enjoyed watching Vic play here and when his contract is up at the end of the year I hope Amaro takes his head out of his rear and gets him back. This team will never be a contending team with an outfield of Brown, Mayberry, and whoever! It should, however, be comical watching those two play (or try to play)! Bring Vic back soon! erniebanks14
Shane, you played the game with intensity and had fun doing it. I will miss Number 8 in center. Good luck. The grand slam against Sabathia is in my top ten sports moments. Mahalo eagleargy

Shane Victorino rocked while he was here. I hope the Phils bring him back if they can't get Bourn. Ty Cobb is a tool. athousandgods
Shane; thanks for you efforts both on the field and in the community! Always know that Philly fans love you and wish you well; go win another WS now! JBinPA
Class act. Going old school with the newspaper ad....Nice 2ndNlong
Thanks for being the sparkplug for the Phillies in 2008. I hope he can find new life with the Dodgers. AvoidSundanceVacations
It's such a shame, b/c you know Vic and Pence were really upset that they had to leave. Shoot, Pence looked like he was about to cry in the interview asking him if he thought he would be traded. That's a credit to all of us fans who root Hard, and to the type of organization the owners have built. Two class acts, to bad it didn't work out. Best of luck to both. sore richard
victorino made far more big plays for phillies than bad ones he is a good player would not mind at all if he is brought back..great job victorino did at nicetown G&B club same area where bigoted phillie organization would not sign because of THEIR color 4 time mvp catcher roy campenella from that neighborhood.. only 9
Victorino will always be a champion in this city. escapedcamden4monterey
The checkbook came out for virtually all of the older, core players--
Hamels, Utley, Rollins, Howard to say nothing of the generous packages for Doc, Lee and now Pap. Why not Shane? Happy trails to Shane. He always gave 110% and is probably the best fielding outfielder in the NL. And I know he is better off in LA and I get to see him play for a team that is going to compete and make it to the postseason-- unlike the team on S. Broad. pajamas
Shane, thank you. Seal Rock
Ty Cobb epitomizes your writings...and yourself...NO CLASS!!! ctfan
Rock on Shane!! outta work
While the Flyers are the best at it - the Phillies maintain raport with ex players pretty well too, you're always welcome here Shane. robinlupe- It's crazy to think that half of the starting position players, including the entire outfield, from the 2008 Champions are gone (in the case of Feliz, Burrell, and Werth, long gone). I know Shane was an imperfect player, but the fact is that the Phils (and their fans) may not have those World Series memories without him. Mahalo, Shane!
Think of all the other Millionaire players the Phillies have had who were here for 8 year and never bothered put an ad in the papers thanking the fans or anybody else when they left. I doubt you could find one.
Thank you Shane for your throughtful and considerate act. Grapost
Tycobb.....you sound just like the real Ty Cobb, NASTY. associate
Favorite Western Movie, and was my
favorite Phillie.
"Shane, come back." olneyboy- ty cobb . . . You're the loser, loser.
