A quick look at new Phillies reliever Josh Lindblom

The Phillies have traded long-time centerfielder Shane Victorino to the Dodgers for 25-year-old reliever Josh Lindblom, Double-A starter Ethan Martin and a player to be named later or cash, the team announced. First impression is that Ruben Amaro Jr. got about as much as could be expected in return for Victorino, who had a rough first three months of the season but has started to hit better as of late.

Lindblom entered the season as the eighth-rated prospect in the Dodgers organization, according to Baseball America. He is a 25-year-old right-hander with solid strikeout and walk rates -- 8.1 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 -- but a propensity for giving up home runs (nine in 47 2/3 innings this season). In 48 appearances he has a 3.02 ERA. He has converted all 15 of his hold opportunities, but has blown both of his save opportunities. He has stranded 10 of 16 inherited runners. He is an extreme fly ball pitcher, averaging just 0.55 ground balls per fly ball in his two years in the majors. But he clearly upgrades the Phillies' bullpen.

We may not miss the Flyin Hawaiian, at least when Lindblom pitches - the ball will just be flyin' out over the fence! Good luck, Shane!

Great job, Ruben! Getting a quality reliever who can't become a FA until 2017 and a starting pitching prospect who projects as a possible #2 starter. Excellent. And all we had to give up was a washed-up, whining CF.

Better wear a hard hat when sitting in the outfield if the Phillies have this guy keep "Fat Joe" on the team.

Vic, I will miss you big-time. I loved the joy you brought to the team. I am surprised that we got as much as we did under the circumstances.

Vic, good luck. You were always one of the reasons we had a parade on Broad.

As for the new guy, "a propensity for giving up home runs" is the calling card of the 2012 Phillies.

Anybody know what number Lindblom will be wearing? I want to be the first tool seen in the lower bowl Friday night wearing his jersey.

Hope someone can teach him to get the ball down. Extreme fly ball pitchers don't work at CBP.

That is a nice start. They have 3.5 hours to make the 2013 team better. Get busy! Shane, thanks for a ton of great memories! Good luck!

What a shame this season turned into last year's Eagles season...at least the Birds were smart enough to not have a fire sale

I think this is a great trade for both teams. Dodgers will now be favorites in NL West with Vic leading off and running down everything in the outfield. Phillies pick up two quality arms both with great potential.Best wishes to Vic, sorry to see him go. (HTML deleted)
