Phils To Start Regulars Tonight

In the first of two exhibition game in at Citizens Bank Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Phillies are going with their main starting lineup.

Here is tonight’s lineup: Juan Pierre, LF; Placido Polanco, 3B; Jimmy Rollins, SS; Hunter Pence, RF; Shane Victorino, CF; Ty Wigginton, 1B; Carlos Ruis, C; Freddy Galvis, 2B; Joe Blanton, P.

Despite the chilly conditions, the Phillies all said they were glad to be back to Philadelphia. (Did you expect any other reaction?).

Charlie Manuel talked before the game about how he likes Rollins in the third spot and also said that John Mayberry Jr. would get plenty of playing time.

“Everybody asks about John Mayberry is he going to play,” Manuel said. “He will play first base, left field, center field and right field in a pinch.”

It is interesting that Pierre is starting tonight against a lefthander, Tony Watson for the Pirates.

“He definitely can hit lefthanded pitching,” Manuel said of Pierre. “His style of play is he moves the ball around and hits to all fields and that I why he has had success against lefties.”
